The Best Drummer?

Hello All-

I just wanted to weigh in on this topic. For about 6 years, I really bought into this idea of there being a best drummer. For me, during that time, it was all about Vinnie, Dave and Steve. Because of that, I dismissed everyone else as being unworthy of any of my attention. As a result, I only bought stuff with the aforementioned drummers on it. I even stopped buying MD unless these guys were in it.

Then, by accident, I happened to catch some drummer on t.v. I do not remember who, but his simplistic approach and genuine enthusiasm for the instrument inspired me. At that point, I started buying MD again. I vowed to read every article, no matter who it was and try to gain any insight I could. With the one exception of the MUDVAYNE guy SPUG, each article has really brought me something valuable.

I share this because I feel like people can really lose sight of why we or anyone else plays. It's not so we can be the best in the world. It's so we can be our best. This really frees us from being hung up about what we cannot do, and focuses us on what our strengths are.

I have found that every drummer has something to offer. Every drummers job is just to find what that is and share it with someone.

Ok, time to discard my soapbox! Thanks for letting me vent. I know, you did not have much choice right [img]smile.gif[/img] Thanks anyway.

Agreed Frank...what you described abouve is called, "Growing up." It happens to some earlier than others. It's a choice. You reap what you sow. We in American, and all over, have the power of choice. Unless you lose it, you don't appreciate it. We have so much on the plate in America, we can get "over fed" and then start to minimize into categories--Best of, Fastest...IMO, it's all a way to get control over our lives, to grab onto something until we can hold more... I like to say my favorite drummer would have to be the great Jesus D'addrio when I first heard him play I immediatley stopped playing and I wanted to cut of my hands, viva la D'addrio .
